Extrait du perg\u00e9lisol sib\u00e9rien et alaskien, les d\u00e9fenses de mammouths laineux disparus il y a 10 000 \u00e0 40 000 ans sont fouill\u00e9es, r\u00e9pertori\u00e9es et lib\u00e9r\u00e9es en quantit\u00e9s strictement limit\u00e9es. Chaque pi\u00e8ce est unique dans sa couleur, sa densit\u00e9, l&#8217;histoire inscrite \u00e0 sa surface. Ce n&#8217;est ni de la corne, ni de la r\u00e9sine, ni une mati\u00e8re que l&#8217;on peut reproduire \u00e0 la cha\u00eene. Son extraction ne menace aucune esp\u00e8ce vivante et ne perturbe aucun \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me : c&#8217;est la terre elle-m\u00eame qui la livre, apr\u00e8s des mill\u00e9naires de conservation dans le perg\u00e9lisol. Une mati\u00e8re pr\u00e9cieuse et irrempla\u00e7able, dont la raret\u00e9 absolue est la garantie ultime de son caract\u00e8re unique.<\/p>\n<p>Ch\u00e2teau LAGUIOLE\u00ae travaille deux expressions distinctes de cette mati\u00e8re. La premi\u00e8re est la pulpe d&#8217;ivoire de mammouth, le noyau dense et blanc cr\u00e9meux de la d\u00e9fense, recherch\u00e9 pour son fini presque lumineux et sa texture soyeuse. Poli \u00e0 la perfection, il capte la lumi\u00e8re d&#8217;une fa\u00e7on qui donne l&#8217;impression que le couteau est \u00e9clair\u00e9 de l&#8217;int\u00e9rieur. La seconde est la cro\u00fbte d&#8217;ivoire de mammouth, la couche corticale ext\u00e9rieure de la d\u00e9fense fossilis\u00e9e. Plus brute, plus caract\u00e9rielle, marqu\u00e9e par les fissures naturelles et les min\u00e9raux accumul\u00e9s au fil des mill\u00e9naires, elle donne \u00e0 chaque manche un visage irr\u00e9ductiblement singulier.
